Business Central 2020 WAVE 1 What’s New – FAST TRACKS
I want to show you some features of the new version of Dynamics 365 Business Central 2020 Wave1, the detail of all the features released can be found in my previous post. Of course, you can also find everything on the Microsoft website and in their recorded presentations.
WHAT’S NEW FAST TRACK – 20 POINTS
FUNCTIONALS – MODERN CLIENT
#1 NEW WELCOME PAGE
a nice new Welcome Page!
#2 SERCH IN MENU’ (FIND FUNCTION IN ROLE CENTERS)
Now it is possible to search in the menus, the system highlights the items searched; you can expand the items or not. Very similar to the original version for Windows Client. Very helpful.
EXPAND\COLLAPSE
Very helpful!
#3 MORE USER SETTINGS
From user setting it is possible to manage many settings
#4 ADVANCED SETTING (ONBOARD)
From Advanced settings it is possible to manage all the settings (new user experience called “On-board”).
#5 ALL LANGUAGES
All languages are available in the list of “available languages”
#6 – OPTIMIZED PAGE SPACE
The space for pages and reports has been optimized, now you can see more data on the screen.
#7 IMPROVEMENTS FOR FILTER EXPRESSIONS
When authoring filters that use expressions, such as date ranges or filter tokens, you can toggle the filter field to display either the expression or the corresponding value. To view the expression again, just set the focus to the filter field by using the keyboard or mouse.
This feature applies to:
- Filters on lists. Here, it is particularly useful when saving list views so that date- or time-sensitive expressions can easily be modified when needed.
- Filters to filters on report request pages, XmlPort request pages
#8 SHOW AND GO TO RELATED RECORDS FROM A LIST
Very useful! now you can open the page corresponding to the selected record directly from the link!
#9 CANCEL LOAD RUNNING OPERATIONS
it is possible to abort too long operations
#10 ENTER DATA MORE EASILY & NAVIGATE TREE MORE EASY
DATA ENTRY
F2 Key
F2 key toggles between selecting the field’s entire value and moving to end of the value. This allows users to quickly replace the value or add to it. The key allows users to quickly replace the value or add to it. The F2 key is available for editable fields and editable cells in lists.
TAB Key
When typing to fill in a row of data, the Tab key no longer sets focus to the ellipses that bring up the context for the row. In editable lists, users can use the left and right arrow keys to navigate to the previous or next cell in a row.
NAVIGATE TREE MORE EASY
Users get a better overview of their data when it is grouped into categories. Some data is best represented as a deep hierarchical list. Business Central empowers developers to design pages for both of these scenarios, so that users can get the best possible overview and navigate to the relevant records.
#11 EXPAND-COLLAPSE DOCUMENT LINES
Business users must be able to optimize their workspace for reading and entering data. On sales and purchase documents (and other similar documents), business users will be able to collapse the document lines section on the page.
#12 BOOKMARK A LINK TO A REPORT
Bookmarks can now also be used for reports
#13 RECEIVE MORE ITEMS THAN ORDERED
You’ll be able to receive a quantity higher than the ordered quantity on purchase orders according to an over-receive policy that you set up on the Over-Receipt Codes page.
#14 REGISTER CAPACITIES IN SECONDS AND MILLISECONDS
Requested by many partners and customers, possibility to manage seconds and milliseconds as a unit of measure of capacity.
#15 USER RESOURCES IN PURCHASE DOCUMENTS
Resources can now also be used in purchase documents. Helpful!
TECHNICAL- DEVELOPMENT-ADMINISTRATION
#16 PAGES OPTIMIZED FOR MULTIPLE PART
By having highly optimized layouts, users get the best overview of their data to quickly make decisions and act, reducing the need to scroll and navigate to get the task done. Great!
#17 MANAGE AND KILL SESSIONS
Very useful… now you can see and manage all active sessions, the “cancel session” control allows you to kill the sessions.
#18 SEND TO EMAIL-PRINTER
There is a new APP “Send-to email printer“…
In the generic version of Business Central, a cloud printer named Email Printer is installed as an extension and is ready to use after initial setup. If a cloud printer is not installed and set up, or if an installed printer fails, then printing will default to the printing options for the browser. This is indicated by this value in the Printer field on the report request page: (none, handled by the browser).
On the Printer Management page, you can see the printers that are set up.
#19 IMPROVED PAGES LOAD TIME
Pages load faster than before, first open and then load data avoid unnecessary recalculation. Is a pattern that developers can use to get a page to load faster. Pages open quickly!
#20 PRINT TO ATTACHEMENTS
Business Central allows you to print documents to document attachments using the Attach as PDF action.
#21 MONITOR WEB SERVICE REQUESTS & RESOURCE LIMITS AND SERVICES CALLS
Web Services requests can be limited (calls and dedicated resource limitations), you can monitor them.
#22 LOOK-UP EVENTS AND INSERT IN CODE
A core part of extension-based “customization” is the use of events and event subscribers. Use the new Shift+Alt+E shortcut in the AL code editor to invoke a list of all events.
#23 AL INTERFACES
An interface is used when you want to decide which capabilities need to be available for an object. This allows for writing code that reduces the dependency on implementation details, makes it easier to reuse code, and supports a polymorphing way of calling object methods, which again can be used for substituting business logic.
